The remarkable story of John Collinson, the Tyneside shipyard worker turned singing sensation who first recorded an Ozzie classic

Collinson was coming round from an anaesthetic after being injured in WW1 when he started singing. It was a talent he didn't know he had, but by chance he came to the attention of the musical establishment and was propelled into a new career.
He would best be remembered down under where he was the first artist to record "Waltzing Matilda", which was to become the unofficial Australian national anthem.
With help from long-established contacts in Australia this became a co-production with the ABC so the story got told in both hemispheres.
